This page contains exclusive items brought over from Morocco. Most of them are one off items, and once they are gone they are gone.

Updated in November with several new items!

‘shakara’ bags

These featured bags are ‘shakara’ bags as used by Berber traders in the south of Morocco/desert as money bags, worn across the body over one shoulder. Coins go in the front section that flaps up and notes in the back pocket next to the body. They are quite old, estimated around 40-50 years, definitely very limited in availability. The decorations were probably added later. Some are patched and repaired and a bit scruffy inside which we think adds to their charm.

All been fed with saddle food and cleaned inside as much as possible.
They make a great wall decoration or a definite talking point as an occasional use handbag

Wild Wood Groves Highly Recommends that you take advantage of our Recorded Delivery or Guaranteed Delivery services on these items, select the appropriate option from the shopping cart when you make your purchase.

Thuja Boxes

Walking in the narrow streets of Essaouira the aromatic scent coming from the thuja workshops is unmissable. Thuja carving is one of the main crafts of this UNESCO protected town.

Thuja (pronounced Thuya) is a genus of coniferous trees in the Cupressaceae (cypress family). The wood of thujas is light, soft and aromatic.  Thuja wood is greatly prized for the variations of patterns in the grain and the resin like aroma.

Craftsmen work an allocated quantity to maintain the survival of the trees which grow in the countryside nearby.
Our thuja boxes can be used for storing jewellery or other small items.

Moroccan Amber Resin Pots

Most of the world's amber is in the range of 30–90 million years old. Amber is extensively used for beads and other ornaments, and for cigar-holders and the mouth-pieces of pipes. It is regarded by the Turks as specially valuable, inasmuch as it is said to be incapable of transmitting infection as the pipe passes from mouth to mouth. The variety most valued in the East is the pale straw-coloured, slightly cloudy amber.
